Service

At First Church, we are dedicated to making a difference in our community through acts of kindness, compassion and faith. From feeding the hungry to supporting the education of our at risk neighbors, we believe in living out Christ’s love in practical ways. Join us as we work together to build a stronger, more connected community where everyone feels valued and loved.

Meal Packing Ministry

First Church has partnered with Meals of Hope to pack food for those in need. Every other week we pack non-perishable food in our social hall for hungry families in our community. Food insecurity is a major concern with the increased cost of food today. Since we started this program in December of 2020, we have packed over 500,000 meals for those receiving food from Meals of Hope food pantry! This is an easy and fun way to give back to the community while meeting people as you pack. It only takes 1.5 hours for 10 volunteers to pack every other week. All are welcome. You don’t need to be a church attender to participate.

Grace Place For Children and Families

Grace Place is a valuable local organization in Golden Gate City that focuses on providing comprehensive educational support for individuals of all ages, from 1-year-olds to adults. Their services help empower families through education, fostering a brighter future for the community.

First Church actively supports Grace Place by organizing initiatives like purchasing and packing backpacks filled with essential school supplies for school-aged children. This effort ensures students are equipped and ready for a successful school year.

This year, First Church has taken on a special mission to help fund the maintenance of one of Grace Place’s school buses. These buses play a vital role in the organization’s ability to transport students and ensure accessibility to educational programs.

Serve at First Church

Are you interested in helping out at church? In addition to opportunities to participate in the Sunday Service, there are special occasion opportunities such as decorating the sanctuary for Christmas, volunteering at special events like the Fall Festival or rummage sale as well as helping with church maintenance.

Card Ministry

Writing cards to express gratitude and encouragement to police officers, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, and homebound individuals reflects a deep sense of care and respect. It’s these simple acts of kindness that can truly brighten someone’s day and reinforce a sense of connection and community. To date our congregation has written over 200 cards to First Responders!

Altar Flower Ministry

Every Sunday, there are beautiful flowers on the altar. We like to share that beauty and brighten the days of people who serve the local community by donating the altar flowers. Neighborhood Health Clinic, NCH, Grace Place, Boys and Girls Club and many more have received our lovely arrangements.

This simple yet impactful act of giving leaves a lasting impression on both the recipients and the people your congregation serves.

Prayer Shawls

Prayer Shawl Ministry provides handmade needle works for those that need a bit of extra comfort due to life circumstances like shut-ins, medical, illnesses, deaths, new family arrivals, confirmation etc.

No skill is required, just a willingness to learn. Projects have been typically completed at home, but if we have enough interest it’s possible we could gather at homes or church.

Work completed can use knitting or crochet for shawls, other projects (bookmarks, prayer squares, etc) could be completed using needlepoint.

First Church has many opportunities to serve. Learn about all of the outreach opportunities you can participate in today.
